Colchicum ancyrense is a perennial plant of the Colchicaceae family.
Perennial herbaceous plant 5-15 cm tall. It belongs to the winter-early spring ephemeroids. The underground shoot is an ovoid corm. The stem is absent. Three leaves, they are linear or linear-lanceolate. The flowers are solitary, appear simultaneously with the leaves in January-March.There can be from 1 to 5 flowers on one plant. The perianth is pink-purple. The species is light-loving, drought-resistant and thermophilic. It grows in steppe cenoses, on rocky slopes. Like other members of the genus, this plant contains the poisonous alkaloid colchicine.
The species is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine with the status "Vulnerable".
