Astragalus of OdessaAstragalus odessanusa perennial plant of the Legume family (Fabaceae).
A semi-shrub from 40 cm to 1 m tall. The stems are woody at a considerable height, covered with dark brown bark that peels off. Annual shoots are thin, pubescent with pressed hairs. The leaves are odd-pinnate. The inflorescence is a tuft of heads. It is dense and multi-flowered. The perianth is complex: the flowers are red-purple; cup tubular, densely covered with white and black hairs. The fruit is a bib, which is covered with pressed white hairs with an admixture of small black ones.
A Black Sea endemic species with a fragmented and shrinking range. It grows in steppe coenoses, on rocky slopes.
The species is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine in the status of "Rare".
